West Palm Beach, FL (Sept. 16, 2016) — The Palm Beach Pops and its Legacy Foundation of Palm Beach County are partnering with the prestigious Lake Worth Playhouse to hold auditions for underprivileged music students seeking scholarships of up to $5,000, as well as young pianists or conductors vying for the inaugural Maestro Bob Lappin Legacy Grant of up to $10,000.

The Playhouse is set to host auditions in its mainstage theatre at the end of the month. Applicants will perform in front of a distinguished review committee of business and cultural leaders with hopes of securing much-needed scholarship funds for instruments, lessons, music school tuition or other relevant needs. Funds will be paid directly to the institution, teacher or vendor.

“We are extremely grateful to the Playhouse for helping us reach the goals the Legacy Foundation is setting out to accomplish,” said Palm Beach Pops President and Executive Director Jon Lappin. “The leadership of the Playhouse certainly understands the importance of arts and culture in the community. We are united in our efforts to reach a new generation of promising talent to help fight the root of cultural erosion.”
Auditions are closed to the public. Scheduled performers include violinists, flutists, vocalists, pianists and cellists. Applicants represent numerous Palm Beach County area schools, such as Jupiter Middle School, Jupiter High School, Palm Beach Lakes High School, Wellington High School and several elementary schools. Funding recipients will be announced within two weeks after the auditions.

Review committee members include:

Now entering its 64th season, The Lake Worth Playhouse is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community theatre with a never-be-dark policy. Year-round programming includes award-winning dramas, comedies, musicals, area premieres, Broadway favorites, children’s shows, black box theatre, international ballets and operas in cinema, a live concert series and alternative programming.  The Playhouse also offers educational programs for adults and children, and community outreach initiatives that bring cultural programs into the neighborhoods of underserved youth, and also make theatre available free of charge for disadvantaged citizens in the community.

“We are thrilled to partner with The Palm Beach Pops and the Legacy Foundation of Palm Beach County,” said Daniel Eilola, Director of Development at Lake Worth Playhouse. “Our respective institutions have rich histories of supporting the county’s cultural community and giving underprivileged children and young adults opportunities in music, arts and culture that they otherwise would not have access to.”
