Dear Mr. Jon Lappin,

It is sad for me to say that it is going to be my last year with the Legacy
Foundation and that I won’t even be able to show my musical growth in
person. But looking back on my middle and high school years, I am so
grateful to you and to everyone at the Foundation for helping me have the
best experience possible. Paying for lessons was not a problem and I was
able to have an amazing summer camp experience in 2018 with the help of
Legacy Foundation. Learning the violin has changed me and taught me so much
and I cannot thank you enough for all the support that you have given me. I
will always carry the memories I made with the violin and the lessons I
learned along the way. You have made a profound difference in my life and
have inspired me to do the same for others. I hope you will be able to
continue to support other students with their studies until there is not a
single person that needs help.

With much gratitude,
Joseph Cuenco

Riley is diligent in her violin practice and lessons. She performed her Graduation Recital for Suzuki Book 4 in November.   She is intently working on the pieces of Book 5. Riley is a strong player in the Strings Orchestra and ensemble. She performed at the Harriet Himmel Theater for the October 17 concert in playing Mythos for the Paris Ballet dancers of Jupiter. It was the climax of the concert.

The second big concert of the fall was at the Kravis Center on December 7 where 27 musicians of the Strings Ensemble performed on the Lobby steps for ”Beyond the Stage.”

She is a fine role model for the other young musicians. She is always ready to play in the first or second violins, providing support for either section when it is needed. She has developed responsive attention to ensemble playing.

Her lessons are well structured. Her practice is consistent. Technically we are concentrating on developing Vibrato and working with 3 octave scales.

Audrey has made wonderful progress with her violin technique. She has worked diligently to improve her hand positions. In turn, this has greatly improved her tone.  It takes dedicated concentration in home practice to monitor and correct physical changes.

She attends lessons regularly and is always prepared with good practice. It is so rewarding to work with a student who demonstrates a positive attitude.

Our current challenge is directed toward reading music notation. She had not had the opportunity to do this before. This will greatly increase her comfort level in orchestra and build her self-confidence.

Valeska is meeting the challenges of the high expectations that are required in her orchestra and individual performance. I was so proud of her preparation of Concert No. 1 in A minor Op 33 for Viola by Saints-Sean for her first semester  2017 jury. It was written for viola from the cello concerto.  It consisted of nine pages of technically demanding passages, which she perfected with creative skill.

She finds great reward in the Advanced Symphony at Dreyfoos.

Her technical emphasis has been on the three octave scales with full range of arpeggios.

Valeska sets high standards in all that she does. She is an outstanding musician.

Carly has grown with very refined performance levels.  She was first chair in the Cello section for the Strings Ensemble performance with the Paris Ballet of Jupiter dancers at the Harriet Himmel Theater on October 17, 2018. On December 7, the Ensemble performed in “Beyond the Stage” at the Kravis Center in the lobby prior to the evening concert.

Carly is a responsible musician demonstrating fine musical leadership.

Her technical growth has included pieces in the Tenor Clef. She has worked hard with shifting, scale studies and Etudes. Her tone development has made substantial improvement in the past year. Vibrato has been emphasized in her lessons. She will continue with her cello studies. With a schedule change at school, she will be able to play in their orchestra going forward.

The Legacy Foundation has supported a fine musician.

Lauren is doing quite well with her violin studies this year.  She joined the Advanced orchestra for the first time and really showed her abilities when she prepared for our performance at the Kravis Center.  She memorized all the repertoire and joined the group with ease.  She continues to show responsibility as the concert master of her school orchestra.  Lauren began Suzuki book 4 this year and is still improving in areas of technique and music reading.

This is incredibly exciting news! We can’t thank you enough.

Our son feels like playing the tuba is the path his life and career will be taking. The purchase of a tuba has been something that felt out of reach.  You assistance in buying a tuba for our son is a life-changing event for him.  I can’t begin to describe how much this means to us as a family.

Thanks again for providing the funds to make this dream a reality for our son.

Can you please let the board know that Hailey made All State for orchestra on her viola and will be going to Tampa for the FMEA convention in January for a 2 day intense rehearsal ending with a concert. This is a great opportunity for her and she has worked so hard to get to this point! I want to thank them so much for giving her the music scholarship to purchase her viola especially since the viola rental ended this month and I wasn’t sure what our next step would be!  The financial cost for All State is the families responsibility and because of your generous scholarship to purchase her viola the financial burden of paying for All State was much less for us!!! Thank you again!! I’ll keep you posted on her experience there!

Aiden is working hard to prepare for his lessons, and it shows in his progress. I am thrilled he and his family are taking his sponsored flute studies so seriously!

He has decided to prepare for Bak MSOA, and I am optimistic about the results!

As always, many thank yous to you and the Legacy Foundation for awarding scholarships to needy yet deserving PBC music students.

Please accept our warmest thanks for allowing Jacob the awesome experience of auditioning for all of you at the historic Lake Worth Theater on Saturday. He was so impressed with The Lappin Family’s dedication to music and the cultural arts. He said, “Mom, wouldn’t it be amazing if I could give back like that someday?” Mr. Lappin truly inspired my son with his words and kindness and that, in itself, is a treasure.

We were able to stay for a few of the other student performances before rushing to Jacob’s Marching Band competition; what a promising musical future is before us here in Palm Beach County!

Again, please express our most sincere gratitude to The Lappin Family, The Legacy Foundation, and The Palm Beach Pops for touching the future of the Cultural Arts in such a generous way. This scholarship, if received, will mean the world to my son as his music IS his world.

For the past month Janay has been taking viola lessons at the Preparatory Department. She has made great progress since she has started in May 2017. In that time we have worked on scales, etudes and solo pieces. Janay has made progress in learning her scales in which she is learning three octave C major and D major scales. Along with scales she has completed three etudes, which all involved shifting. Janay is now becoming more confident in shifting and getting familiar with the different positions on the finger board. We have been working on three solo pieces, two of which Janay has memorized and completed. Teaching Janay has been a joy because she is eager to learn and take on the tasks given inside her lessons and using them outside of her lessons.
