The Palm Beach Pops Launches ‘Music & You Program’

The Palm Beach Pops Launches ‘Music & You Program’ This Week Promoting Music Education in Elementary Schools Located in Boynton Beach, Greenacres,

 Lake Worth

(Palm Beach Gardens, FL – October __, 2015) Jon Lappin, President of The Palm Beach Pops, today announced that South Florida’s most loved pops orchestra has once again launched the popular Music & You In-School Youth Education Program for Palm Beach County underserved school districts.

Now in its 15th year and designed for children up to age 12, the popular four-week Music & You program started this week at four local schools:

+ Cholee Lake Elementary School in Greenacres

+ Citrus Cove Elementary School in Boynton Beach

+ Indian Pines Elementary School in Lake Worth

+ Liberty Park Elementary School in Greenacres

Following the four weekly sessions – which include in-school lessons from each section of the orchestra (brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion) – a Finale concert will be held on October 30 at the Duncan Theatre at Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth.  This concert is a major event because all of the young students, who spent the previous month studying the importance of the rudiments of music will experience a live orchestral concert that wraps up all of the concepts that were taught in the schools.

The Palm Beach Pops will bus all of the students to the venue for concert at no cost to the schools or taxpayers.

Please note that all of the Music & You in-school sessions and the finale concert are for children only and are not open to the public.

The Music & You Program correlates music with social studies, literature, character education science and math.  It enables students to develop an understanding of the rudiments of melody, harmony and rhythm by listening to a variety of music, from the classics to the Great American Songbook, including Bach, Mozart, Gershwin, Duke Ellington and more – all of which conveys to students how the history of American music relates to modern musical genres. In fact, nearly 90,000 local school children have already attended and actively participated in these program concerts.
